Description

General Description

Eucalyptus deglupta, commonly called rainbow eucalyptus or Mindanao gum, is one of the most striking trees in the world thanks to its multicolored bark. It is the only eucalyptus species naturally found in the Northern Hemisphere and is native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.

  • Family: Myrtaceae
  • Height: Can reach 60–75 m in native tropical forests; usually 30–45 m in plantations
  • Trunk/Bark: Smooth, peeling bark reveals streaks of green, blue, purple, orange, and maroon — giving the “rainbow” effect
  • Leaves: Evergreen, lanceolate, glossy green, arranged oppositely or alternately
  • Flowers: Small, white clusters; not as showy as the bark
  • Fruit: Woody capsules containing tiny seeds
